Study Programme

The Foundation Programe, or FP, is a structured study programme suitable for those with some experience of our weekly meditation (GP) classes. It is taught by the Resident Teacher at the Maitreya Centre, Kelsang Phuntsog. The programme helps the student to deepen their knowledge and experience of meditation practice and Buddha’s teachings.

The class takes place:

at Maitreya Buddhist Centre in Assagay, Monday evenings, 7pm - 9pm

at Yellowwood Cafe in Howick, Wednesday evenings, 5.30pm - 7.30pm

FP classes include:
*Beautiful Chanted Prayers
*Meditation
*Study with a Teacher
*Paired and Group Discussion

The subject of study is one of six books written by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

The Maitreya Centre class in Assagay will be starting a new book from Monday 13th Feb called '8 Steps to Happiness' - which guides the student into the Buddhist way of loving kindness.
The Howick class is also currently studying '8 Steps to Happiness'.

The teacher reads from the book and gives a commentary which the students then discuss, contemplate and practice in their daily life.

There are many advantages to joining FP. As well as improving their experience and understanding of Buddha’s helpful advice, the student benefits from regular contact and support with the Sangha or spiritual friends. Anyone with basic experience of the weekly meditation classes (GP) and a wish to learn and deepen their meditation practice can join the Foundation Study Programme.
